Best cars of 2011: BMW 535d and 1M in Clarkson's Powered Up DVD
The BMW 535d F10 was chosen by Jeremy Clarkson in his latest DVD as the BEST CAR launched in 2011, because of the brilliant balance between all aspects : comfort, looks, power, fuel economy, space, price and handling. But still, Clarkson thinks that HIS Favorite car of the video is the BMW 1M, the baby car from the M division, mainly because of that FUN factor that makes the 1m a real JOY to drive.
Fresh from Denmark, Jesper Jensen and Troels Vollertsen stop by the garage with their obscenely powerful, hand-built supercar, which at 1100 bhp was designed to be driven every day. No wonder their logo is the hammer of the God of Thunder...
The BMW M5 has a long and rich performance history, and that resume only improves for 2012. With a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 pumping out 560 horsepower and an always-willing chassis underpinning it all, we can't wait to get behind the wheel.
Sadly we're a bit shy on the $92,000 needed to buy our own M5, so for now we'll settle for some stunning video and a melodious soundtrack. Hit the jump to hear the racy sounds emanating from the throaty M5, then stay for the sexy slow-motion drifts.
Autoblog: A hardtop convertible Ferrari? Yeah, you're gonna want a pretty blonde to cover that one. But this isn't the California. This is the 458 Spider. Right, better make it Vicki Butler-Henderson then. VBH, you see, isn't some boulevard-cruising talk-show host. Sure, she's presented her share of reality television shows, like the UK version of The Biggest Loser, but she's also a certified racing driver and one of the hosts on Fifth Gear. Sounds to us like the perfect personality to test Maranello's latest follicle stimulator, and lucky for us, that's just what she's done. Follow the jump to see Vicki channel her best Clarkson and quite nearly come to climax on camera as she drives her new favorite supercar around the Italian countryside.
There is a lot to love about the 2014 Audi e-tron Spyder. It's a compact roadster with a torque-happy, twin-turbo diesel V6 mated to two electric motors capable of more instant twist. When we recently took the e-tron Spyder for a spin, we were limited to just 40 miles per hour, but the Four-Ringed automaker tells us that a trip to 62 takes only 4.4 seconds.
And because this Spyder is a green monster, it can travel up to 30 miles on electric power alone. Using a mixture of the diesel and its lithium ion battery, it will consume on average a scant 2.2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.
That sounds like a lot of "too good to be true," but Audi promises to be the leader in luxury electric cars by 2020, and a production version of this vehicle is expected for 2014. Hit the jump to watch new footage of the e-tron Spyder in motion. It might not be ready to go on sale, but it at least looks mighty fine on the roads of Malibu, California, near where we drove it.
Autoblogs omtale av det kommende bilspillet Forza Motorsport 4!
In the interest of full disclosure, I should make it clear up front that I have always been a loyal devotee of Gran Turismo. The series helped craft my automotive knowledge through middle school and high school, helped me choose the proper spring rates for my track rat in college, and generally consumed days and days of my young life. So when Turn 10 introduced Forza Motorsport for the Microsoft xBox in 2005, I was skeptical. Whereas Gran Turismo seemed to push the realism line ever further, Forza Motorsport felt laced with traces of Cruisin' USA or some other relic of the arcade circuit. But that was then.
The Forza Motorsport series has matured significantly over the intervening six years, and Forza Motorsport 4 has debuted as the pinnacle of xBox automotive entertainment. With over 80 manufacturers on hand and 22 tracks, each with multiple configurations, this latest version promises to be an eruption of digital motorsports glory.
With Gran Turismo 5 currently collecting dust and wallowing in a tepid pool of disappointment, it was finally time to give Forza another shot. Turn 10 was kind enough to provide a review copy as well as a loaner xBox 360 for a week. I tried not to look my Playstation 3 in the eye as I wired up the rival machine, brushed off any traitorous feelings and hit the power button. It was time to go racing.
Via Club Lexus.com Look out Germany, Lexus is coming! With the release of the IS F, it was clear the days of effectively ceding the sports sedan market to Audi, BMW and Mercedes were over, and the future looks bright. Personally, I like the idea of an eight-speed gearbox with paddle shifters, though I think that a lot of enthusiasts are going to be disseminated they can't get a car with a third pedal. But given the how few people opt for a manual shift anymore, it's not terribly surprising that even the sporty variants in the Lexus line will stick to the two pedal formula. That said, I think this F-Sport teaser looks pretty cool. Watch this clip and let us know what you think? Is the F-Sport line ready for its close up? Should BMW be worried? Head over to the Forum and sound off!
The Buick Grand National is a bona fide classic. Out of the emissions-strangled Seventies arose an engine that turned the plain G-body Buick into a fire-breather capable of running with exotics of its era. Pony cars were accustomed to viewing it from behind. Slathered in monochromatic black paint, the Grand National is one of few true legends to emerge from the beleaguered domestic auto industry during the 1980s. That's why Andrew Filippone Jr's "Black Air" documentary will be thrilling to anyone whose heart beats in some kind of firing order.
In many ways, the Grand National is the last gasp of the muscle car era that started nearly a generation before it. Built on the last rear-wheel drive General Motors intermediate platform, the A/G body, the chassis details of the Grand National weren't vastly different than those underpinning Skylarks 10-15 years prior.
The Grand National's engine, however, was a different story. Fuel injected, turbocharged and snorting out horsepower and torque numbers that shamed Corvettes, the Grand National's 3.8-liter cast-iron fist hit the jaw of car enthusiast lore hard enough to establish itself as a force to be reckoned with. And that was before it was ushered off the showroom floor with one last gasp of ultimate awe, the GNX.
Filippone has taken the time to interview auto-journalism luminaries and insiders involved with the Grand National's development to weave the enthralling story through firsthand accounts. People we've read, like Csaba Csere and Don Sherman feature in the story, as do Bill Porter, Tony Assenza and Martyn Schorr. Their well-rounded narrative further cements the the sinister black Buick's historical importance.
Watch the trailer after the jump. You can follow Black Air on Twitter, and there's also a Facebook page where you can keep up. Or try to, anyway.
